Ever so often, guest lecturers with deep experience in mathematics come in and teach spectacular lessons to the students at our schools. These lecturers improve our students' math in a variety of ways. First, the lecturers provide the students a glimpse into the world applied mathematics. Second, the lecturers are able to engage the students in a fun way even while teaching college-level concepts (toned down to elementary-level calculations and thinking). Third, lecturers impart experiences they have garnered throughout their careers, giving our students mathematical wisdom.
As of now, Professor Joseph Biello has lectured a few times while Professor Qinglan Xia gave a successful talk at Robert E. Willett elementary.
We would like to give a special thanks to Professor Joseph Biello of Applied Math, Atmospheric Sciences, at University of California, Davis. Your lectures have been inspiring to both the students and us, strongly influencing our current teaching models. Thank you for finding time to come in and teach the students the awesomeness of math!
Professor Biello has lectured on:
Pascal's Triangle
Fibonacci
Golden Ratio
Angles
We would also like to give a special thanks to Professor Qinglan Xia of Analysis and Geometry mathematics at University of California, Davis. Thank you for finding the time to come in and lecture!
Professor Xia lectured on "Lengths, Fractals, and beyond" on April 9th, 2024, giving the students a look into higher level math in an engaging way.
