This page will contain various curriculums designed to be easily implemented into the school year, even at various start times (fall quarter, winter quarter, and even spring quarter!). Have no fear, even if the club just started in spring!
Note: under our current curriculum, we employ a dual-path strategy. Because the difference between 4th graders and 6th graders can be large, one path is slightly easier than the other.
To ensure easy of use and flexibility while retaining cohesiveness, our lessons are grouped into "units" that can be moved around in the larger curriculum plan.
The first unit will always have to be the "Basics" unit. This unit includes lessons on topics like Order of Operations and Variables. This unit has to come first because nearly all worksheets build upon the fundamental concepts taught in this unit.
The following unit can really be anything but it is recommended to be the "Graphing and Lines" unit because certain units, like Statistics, will build off on this.
Afterwards, the order of units taught does not really matter. The various units available include:
Statistics
Probability
Geometry
"Fun Math" is its own unit which contains lessons that do not need to be taught in any order. In fact, it is recommended that the lessons are scattered randomly throughout the school year to provide breaks from the more academic math to explore some interesting or fun concepts. Lessons explored in this unit include:
Infinity
Rate Puzzles
Base Counting
Ciphers
Physics (application of mathematics)
Pascal and Fibonacci
At the end of every semester (halfway through the year), it is recommended to have one lesson on review on all topics previously covered and then have one day entirely dedicated to a game of math Jeopardy in which the students can compete in teams for first place and win a small prize.
